Highway Trees Watering

Tree Planting in the Parish

Over the past few years, the Parish Council has planted several trees on highway verges.

Some of these were planted as a result of the preparation of the Billingshurst Neighbourhood Plan, where residents asked the Council what it was doing to help mitigate climate change.

Back in 2020, the Parish Council resolved to use £5,000 from the Community Infrastructure Levy (CiL) at its disposal, to plant trees on highway verges and asked residents to send in suggestions of where they would like to see trees provided. We had a great response with 29 locations being submitted and we asked West Sussex County Council (WSCC) to check over the areas put forward and choose some suitable varieties of tree for each location. Subsequently, 27 locations were checked and approved and during the winter period of 2020/2021, the trees were planted. To view the map of locations and types of those trees, please click HERE

Several more trees were added last autumn (2024), and it is hoped that residents will help look after these trees too.  If you have noticed a new tree outside your house or one which you pass daily on a walk, then we would be really grateful for your help.  Below you will find full details of the trees which were planted last autumn together with their locations and tree species.
