Lower Station Road Recreation Ground
Published: 10 December 2019
Please note that the long-awaited works to upgrade and improve the
vehicle access entrance into the Recreation Ground at Lower Station Road are
now due to commence Monday 6th January 2020.
Works are due to take around 8 weeks and it is likely that for the majority of the time there will be no access to the site from the main gates at Lower Station Road. To assist residents, the Council has arranged for a pathway from the hard-standing near the skate park across the site to the Tennis Club & Scout & Guide HQ premises.
The Council apologises for any short term inconvenience this will cause, but are sure that residents and users of the site will appreciate that by restricting access, the works can be completed much more quickly and most importantly, safely.
UPDATE - 29.11.19
Following concerns over the restricted access to Lower Station Road Recreation Ground during improvements to the entrance, the Council is pleased to confirm that a temporary pathway will be laid from the skate park in Natts Lane to both the Tennis and Scouts & Guides premises. This provides the safest and most level access as the entrance next to Dauxwood Pre-School is sloping. Unfortunately it is not possible to arrange lighting.
These works, long called-for by groups based at the site have already been much-delayed to avoid various works that the groups themselves have been undertaking during the year, plus long-standing events held at the site. More recently, works were delayed whist Southern Gas Networks (SGN) deliberated over whether or not a cast iron gas main needed replacing.
The Council appreciates that the closure of the entrance onto Lower Station Road will cause some inconvenience but hopes residents, who were advised of the works in the October TWEET, will appreciate that whenever these works take place, some inconvenience will be caused. The planned window hopefully presents the least disruption to the resident groups.
