D-DAY 80TH ANNIVERSARY COMMEMORATIONS

D-Day Events - 6th June 2024

The Parish Council and the local branch of the Royal British legion are working on a programme of events to mark the 80th anniversary of D-Day in 2024, which will culminate in lighting the beacon at Adversane on Thursday 6th June 2024 as part of the national chain of beacons.

5th June - Lantern/Candle Service


On the 5th June 2024 at 10pm the Rev. David Beal will be holding a lantern and candle service to commemorate D-Day, this will be held at St Mary's  church.

6th June - Wreath Laying

At 7.30am on the 6th June 2024, Rob Nichol (Royal British Legion Branch Chairman) will be laying a wreath at the Billingshurst War Memorial to commemorate the anniversary.


6th June - Commemorative Luncheon



Billingshurst Parish Council and the Billingshurst Centre are delighted to be holding a commemorative luncheon on Thursday 6th June between 12.30pm and 2.30pm at the Billingshurst Centre.  There will be a buffet lunch, cakes and scones with jam and cream, a raffle, a mini quiz, prosecco bar and our very own local crooner Rob Nicholl to keep you entertained.

6th June - Bell Ringing

At 6.30pm on the 6th June 2024 the bells of St Mary's will be ringing to mark the 80th anniversary.

Summer Evening on Adversane Green


 


 

From 6.15pm onwards, with the beacon lighting at 9.15pm, the Billingshurst Parish Council is hosting a Summer evening on Adversane Green to mark the 80th anniversary.  There will be displays of WW2 militaria and vehicles, Royal British Legion fund raising stall and band, Scottish piper, fire brigade and refreshment wagon!
